Andy’s fundraising challenge for WGN: cycling over 2,024 miles in 2024 to raise £2,024
Wythenshawe Neighbourhood Officer, Andy Clarke, is seven months through his fundraising challenge. He’s cycling 2,024 miles in 2024 to raise £2,024 for our community group.
Most of our Members are aged 65+ and many live alone. If Andy reaches his fundraising target, we will be able to provide them with the items below.
- A handy WGN 2025 ‘resilience’ diary featuring information about local support services (including our own Volunteer Drivers Scheme), emergency contacts and helpful ‘what to do if…’ scenarios.
- A festive gift, to let our Members know that WGN and their community are thinking of them (at what can be a challenging time of year for many older people).
If Andy’s target is exceeded, we’ll be able to reduce the costs of an autumn day trip for our Members.
Here’s what Andy has to say about his amazing challenge.
“Back in January, I wanted to raise funds for a local good cause. I chose Wythenshawe Good Neighbours as I’m very familiar with the great work they do in support of older residents – to combat social isolation by connecting over 50s to their community.
Cycling’s a great way for me to keep fit and feel good mentally. I also like to do my bit for the environment, so a bike challenge, to complete 2,024 miles during 2024 for a good cause, was the perfect fit.
I’ve cycled through wonderful scenery and countryside this year for my fundraiser. I’ve also been building up the mileage through cycling to and from work – so I’m reducing my carbon footprint too. It’s all been going so well that I’ve decided to add an extra 1,000 miles to my total – so make that 3,024 miles in 2024!”

Thank you so much for any support you are able to give WGN and our Members.
