Volunteer Drivers

The goal of a Wythenshawe Good Neighbours Volunteer Driver is to connect older residents to their local community as part of our new Volunteer Drivers Scheme, launching later this year (2023). We know from talking to our members that having access to affordable and reliable door-to-door transport will have a positive impact on their quality of life.

A Volunteer Driver will:

  • Take our members to/from health appointments, organised events and activities, and social arrangements across Wythenshawe.
  • deliver items locally i.e. our monthly Newsletter, seasonal information and cost-of-living support materials.

Volunteers will be managed by the WGN Manager, with support from the Volunteer Drivers Scheme Assistant, and will receive initial training and ongoing advice and support.

Drivers must have their own vehicles, for which they will receive 45p per mile to reimburse the cost of petrol and to support the insurance and maintenance of the vehicle. Please note that a DBS check will be undertaken for all our Volunteer Drivers.
