Volunteer raises funds for WGN with 3 Peak Challenge
Long-time Wythenshawe Good Neighbours volunteer, Stephen Redman is in training, preparing to scale the heights of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. He’s raising much needed funds for our community group. Stephen does so to help us keep up our good work, and in memory and deep respect for the life of his nephew, James William Cordiner, who sadly passed away last summer.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge is a circular 40km walk, taking in three major peaks in the Yorkshire Dales: Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough – a combined ascent of 5,200ft.
Whilst the scenery will be breathtaking, walking almost a marathon distance and climbing higher than Ben Nevis in under 12 hours is no mean feat of endurance.

“It’s an extremely tough and challenging day, both physically and mentally, but I’m fully prepared for the challenge.
I was devastated when my nephew passed away. A young man full of life and with great big ambitions. His horizon was endless. I feel I have a responsibility to…take the baton and run with it, to honour his spirit of adventure and his generosity in life. In his honour, I want to take on the Yorkshire three peaks and raise money for Wythenshawe Good Neighbours.
I have volunteered with this group from its very beginnings, and I see first-hand the social, cultural and creative opportunities this group offers to older people in my community.”

“We feel very humbled and grateful that WGN will benefit from Stephen’s incredible fundraising challenge in honour of his nephew. Over the years, we have much appreciated Stephen volunteering his skills for our community group. We can’t thank him enough for raising much needed funds for us, and we wish him luck as he prepares to take on the 3 Peaks.
We’d also like to thank everybody who has already sponsored Stephen in support of our work to improve the quality of life for older people in Wythenshawe.”
