It’s easy, it’s just a Walk In The Park, with friends and family…
With 15 parks and as many wooded, stream and green spaces in Wythenshawe most residents are just a few minutes away from a green space. This means that there is a space near you to be enjoyed, explored, to engage with, and it’s absolutely free. In partnership with Wythenshawe Waste Warriors, who help to keep theses spaces clean, green and safe, Wythenshawe Good Neighbours will be organising Sunday strolls, in the many parks of our community, on the first Sunday of every month.
This is a community event with the emphasis on engaging older people, their carers and families. Parks and green spaces are great places to engage older people, making connections with their community and adding to their quality of life and encouraging continued independence. Clean, green, safe and active parks and green spaces will enable older people to get out and about in their local neighbourhoods and provide opportunities to participate in social networks. Perhaps even join WWW on litter picks, or planting and supporting WGN in leading walks. All in all, assisting in maintaining a healthy life style for our over 60s.
After each walk we will evaluate the experience and this will contribute to the development of age friendly parks and green spaces that are accessible and meaningful to older people.
The first Walk In The Park will be Sunday 2nd February. Meeting at the Wythenshawe Road entrance at 1pm and to finish with a brew in the cafe at 2.15pm.
No need to book or phone just turn up. If you would like to volunteer with either group please do contact Marie 07875286866 in the first instance.
